Beacon Prep open house July 24

Beacon Preparatory School, a public charter middle school in Plymouth, Minnesota, will be hosting an open house on Monday, July 24, at 5:00 p.m. A light dinner, beverages, and snacks will be served. The program begins at 5:30 p.m.

According to a letter mailed by the school's board of directors to area students, "Beacon Preparatory offers the Core Knowledge curriculum — a curriculum that typifies a higher-quality education, and one used by several renowned private schools — but in a tuition-free public charter school."

Beacon Prep opens its doors for its first school year in September with grade 6, adding grade 7 for 2007-2008, and grade 8 in 2008-2009.

I've met with Beacon Prep's acting director, Jordan Ford, and toured the school building on Highway 55. Parents and students looking for a knowledge-based curriculum (including the sequential, mastery-based Saxon Math), small class sizes, personalized attention, foreign language instruction, an orderly atmosphere with comfortable uniforms, and state-of-the-art classroom technology should check out Beacon Academy.
